CARINGSTAY
CaringStay opens in New Plymouth
Practical, personal support for people when they need it most – whether in the comfort of their own home or one of ours.
Helen Burke has joined a national platform that matches patients who have been recently discharged from hospitals with people with a spare bedroom who want to help fill a gap in the healthcare market.
CaringStay is a new company that links patients who are not ready to go home yet and hosts who are able to offer some Kiwi hospitality.
The 65-year-old New Plymouth woman said she contacted the founder, Lizzie Scott, last year after reading about the service on a Stuff article – and now her Fitzroy apartment is listed online.
She has not had anyone staying yet, Burke said, but she was excited about hosting her first guest.
“This could be for anybody,” she said.
Burke said Caring Stay was tailored for people who had surgery and would have to spend a couple of days next to hospital, or were just not ready to go home yet.
A former nurse, she feels she will be able to offer the right level of support and caring.
